Goodbye Internet Explorer

The article, "The Web is Dead Long. Live the Internet" we get an idea of how much technology has changed in the past decade, and where it is going in the next decade. We live in an era where its no longer convenient to use a web browser like Internet Explorer, or Fire Fox. We simply use an "app" for doing our business online. Why go through the hassle of typing the old school www. when we can just push a button and be on facebook, or twitter, or shopping at our favorite store. Using a browser isn't the same convenient internet that everyone wants and needs. It is funny to think how fast trends change with the way we share information with our peers. I remember a time when everybody use to email there friends when they wanted to talk. Then came the era of the chat room, followed by instant messaging, now using social networks like twitter, myspace, and facebook. The funniest part to me about using apps instead of browsers is that I never thought about it until I read the article. It just became natural to me, it felt more convenient. Not once was I like "Hey, how come we never use Internet Explorer any more?" As far as I am concerned Internet Explorer was always the middle man in me getting what I wanted on the internet. Using Apps and smart phones is so much easier, I feel like I get exactly what I want in the blink of an eye. Using the internet is part of our daily lives, so we find ways of using it faster and faster. A great example would be iTunes. We don't necessarily want to get in our car, and drive to the store, and buy an entire CD, when we just want one or two songs. So we go to the music store on our computer, and just pick one or two songs. Same idea goes for using an App to a browser. Why log onto the computer, open the browser, navigate through other pages we don't want or need. I feel like Apps are going to be the big information switch of the decade, and we will be holding a candle light vigil for the age of the browser. It almost feels like web browsers are becoming a thing of the past. Like in the next five years we are going to look at our web browsers like we now look at our VCR's, pieces of equipment that served a purpose long ago, but we can't remember what that purpose was off the top of our heads. It would be really cool to have computers that run apps just like our smart phones do. Instead of having a link to Fire Fox on our desktop we would have a link straight to facebook, or google, or youtube. Times have changed, and the future of the internet is Apps, and it is definitely a bright, more colorful future indeed.
